My name is Lucy McLaughlan. I would like to thank you for giving me the chance to show you my art work. My portfolio consists of my Higher Art work; the Design and Expressive units and my Advanced Higher Outcome 1.

For my Design Unit in Higher Art, Rainforest was my chosen theme. The colours and creatures of the rainforest are so beautiful and unusual; they inspired me to create outrageous designs. I created a final outcome of a headpiece for this unit. My Expressive Unit was based on the theme of HipHop Culture. It is a unique life style of music and art; which is what I admire about it. For my final outcome, I put all my drawings together from my Investigation and Development Boards to create a final painting.

For Advanced Higher Art I chose design as it is what I’m most passionate about. My theme is Performance: Feathers and Flight. I love how elegant this theme is but also how vibrant it is and how feathers are so delicate, and for flight; how unusual some of nature’s creatures are. For this outcome my first Investigation Board focuses on feathers, while Investigation 2 concentrates on flight. Each Investigation Board has a Development Board which incorporates their ideas. After that i drew out and then created my final design. I’m very pleased with the outcome.

Fashion plays an important part in my life. I think that fashion is an art form, which shows confidence in how you look and feel. I’m an outgoing and confident person, and I like to express this through my own style. I regularly go shopping, and keep up with the latest trends. At the same time I love going out with my friends and having a good time.

I have many reasons for choosing your Fashion Course at Manchester Metropolitan University; not only because I have heard great reviews about your course, but also because having visited Manchester myself, it is a unique and vibrant city, which I feel would inspire me in the hope of becoming a fashion designer.
